Bulgarian karaoke

November 23, 2005 by Jillian (Sue's sister)

Hmmm…not my usual bright and delightful self this morning :o)

Took myself off to town last night to celebrate the agents wifes birthday and may have had one or twenty drinks too many. Bit of a quiet day today, make no mistake about that..it’s a miserable day anyway so I’ve just cranked up the fire and might just spend the day in front of it. Had a very enjoyable night though and it was good to get out and do a bit of socialising. And as I’ve mentioned before, the Bulgarians love a night out and really have a good time. Mind you, they’re a bit like the Scots…they seem to love Karoake… and last night was a karaoke night…. ARGHHH !!!!

I thought when I left Scotland, I’d left all that behind…no such luck :o)

And No, I do not sing……..saving my ‘beautiful’ voice for growling at builders.

Bulgarian Karaoke was quite interesting though…Yes, they do have all their own songs and I guess it was nice not to be battered with the same old, same old karaoke songs that you hear in every pub in the English speaking world. Though ‘New York, New York’ did make an appearance……..god help us !!!

Today, the Bulgarian builders are out in my yard in the freezing cold, rebuilding the shed…..the clanging sounds are their bits falling off….it’s Baltic out there, and one of them is working without gloves…Good grief, he must have no feeling in his hands at all.

But I’ve got the start of some walls… Hooray !!

I do, however, find myself with a bit of a dilemma…did some sums this morning and because the shed rebuild is costing so much, I may not be able to afford the solar hot water system. How’s that for irony. The shed rebuild is supposedly necessary to take the weight of the solar panels but now, because it’s blown my budget, the solar system idea may have to be discarded….Murphys law ??

Oh well, I guess I’ll have an amazingly strong building in which to keep my wood and my car…….

The weather has really taken a turn for the worst…leaden skies, a more than brisk wind and drizzling rain. The builders have obviously called it a day…and I don’t really blame them. This isn’t the weather to be out in laying bricks.

I’ve been doing the rounds trying to plug up the numerous drafts (draughts?) that are making the place very hard to get warm….I don’t think there’s enough materials in the world to fill these gaps. I plug one, only to feel the biting wind sneaking in through another…….it’s going to be a tough old winter methinks.

The weather’s so miserable now that even the shepherd has bought the flock home and it’s only 3pm…….he obviously knows things that no one else does when it comes to the weather…he bought the flock home early the day it snowed. I guess all his years have given him the ability to read what’s going to happen.

Bill & Leslie are due back from Cyprus tomorrow. They’ve been down there in the warm…I hope they’re prepared for the downturn that’s ocurred in the weather here….Still, at least they now have electric blankets AND air conditioning to help keep them warm.

I’m away now to make them some kind of heart and soul warming casserole for their dinner tomorrow night..they’re going to need plenty of warming when they return..

Until next time
