I knew I was being too optimistic…….no air conditioners, no bloody gardeners !!!!
In Yambol there’s an electrical store that has 1000 of my levs and I have no damned air conditioners and I’ve got no idea what happened to Katia and her offsider……
I really, really am trying to be patient, but right now I feel like pulling my bloody hair out.
I do, however, have a couple of rough looking blokes lurking about upstairs just now who might….if I’m really lucky, get the chimneys cleared.
When they build the houses here they put all the chimney chambers in as they build. Each floor has a number of vents for things like the exhaust fan in the kitchen and the flue pipes for fire and beneath these are inspection chambers….Well, I just had a look into some of those chambers and they’re absolutely blocked solid with birds nests, walnuts, bits of animal matter and other various pieces of un-identifiable ‘stuff’, five years worth I guess. It’s like cement…… No wonder the fire didn’t draw when it was lit.
I can hear lots of strange noises in the walls just now, so I’m hoping these guys are going to solve the problem….at least they haven’t come down the stairs and told me they can’t…..not a word of english though, so I wouldn’t know what they were telling me :o)
Today I did manage to get the biggest and flashest ornament holder in the universe painted and it does look good, even if I say so myself. :o)
…imagine how good it will look will a blazing fire in that fire box …and if these guys know their business, tonight could be the night.
It’s funny…the psychology of a fireplace. Bill keeps going and standing in front of it, just as one does when they find a big, warm fireplace. We have to keep reminding him that it’s just a big object against the wall giving out zero warmth :o)
Later on : Sadly, the light has let us down and the chimney guys have had to leave. So, no fire tonight. There’s limited light on the third floor and none on the fourth..and yes, they’ve had to open up the fourth floor again, so that will let even more cold air down here. They departed with a promise that they would return at 10am tomorrow. Even before I had the chance to lock the door, one of them returned and amended that time to 1pm….is that 1pm tomorrow or 1pm sometime next year ?…….I’ll wait with bated breath.
At least they didn’t walk out saying they couldn’t fix the problem.
Even later….7.15pm in fact….the air conditioner installers have arrived !!! I don’t believe it…I was just about to start whipping up a batch of pancakes for the guests, when I heard whistling from below…and there they were, and though I said tonight wasn’t convenient, they won the argument and are downstairs right now kicking up all sorts of noise….and all sorts of dust. I just hope the very, very old lady who lives next door isn’t being driven mad as they drill through my foot thick walls……..I know the local dogs are…they’re going nuts !! And I’ve got no idea what time they will finish. Took them a couple of hours to install the unit in my bedroom, so they could be here until after 11pm……..Oooops.
And I hope neither of my guests is asthmatic….’cos they’re going to be sleeping in dust city tonight.
Bess has won the guys hearts. She’s very excited about all these new faces in the house and is hanging around them hoping for a game. One of the guys keeps giving the thumbs up and saying ‘Bess is best’
So, now these guys have turned up, will the gardeners be next ?????? It is a full moon…anything could happen…
Ah Bulgaria …always keeps a girl on her toes :o)
Guests….I’ve been asked about taking another couple. Not sure when, but apparently they want accomodation for three to four weeks. I’ve made it clear that December 14th is the cut off date…after that it’s all family until the end of January. I just hope that the requests for accomodation and the guests I’ve already had are a good sign of things to come.
Anyway, to the spine tingling sounds and vibrations of drills working very hard below me, I’ll bid you all Leka Nosht…..time to head off and say a wee prayer to the patron saint of chimneys and chimney sweeps :o)
